"Expenses qualifying as public support" refers to donations not exceeding 2% of annual income, and donations from government bodies or public charities of any size. To be approved for nonprofit tax status as a public charity, we need ⅓ public support, though in some circumstances ⅒ may be sufficient. The state of Miraheze looks uncertain, as our expenses have continued to grow to support more wikis. We didn't receive any large donations this year, so this year has reduced our reserves. Currently, Miraheze has enough reserves to continue to operate for eight months.
Our expansion to serve a larger community has increased the need for new servers, and staff are investigating what our best value would be among the various cloud and leasing providers. We will also have additional expenses associated with incorporating as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. We may eventually need paid staff, but there are still no plans for that. The most important contributions you can make are technical expertise and adding educational and informative content to your wikis.
