Database errorEdit

A new user wants to join in my wiki Tanukipedia.

But database query error occurs. It says "A database query error has occured. This may indicate a bug in software." Therefore, he can't create new account.

This error occurs in Not Only Tanukipedia but also Meta. [1]

ErrorEdit

Whenever I try to create a wiki, it gives me this:

[e2392b23ae3395ae88534926] 2018-11-21 21:29:36: Fatal exception of type "Cdb\Exception"

I've had this multiple times, and it is very annoying. Any ideas on how to fix it? Malcolm Aces! Aces! 21:31, 21 November 2018 (UTC)

@Cy: I have just managed to create a wiki, so I assume that this issue was temporary and has now been resolved. Please let me know if that is not the case. Reception123 (talk) (C) 08:01, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Can you unlock freevandal.miraheze.org ?Edit

I will use Korean because English is not fluent. Sorry.

If you are a bureaucrat, you can reopen the wiki by yourself from Special:ManageWiki. If not, you should file a request on Requests for adoption, so that a steward will reopen the wiki for you.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 09:32, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Check user request on possibly identical usersEdit

Hi, I'd like to request for check user on the following users.

They are possibly identical, according to the result provided by Japanese Uncyclopedia. However, I don't really trust their judgements, because they're notorious for having mistakes and excessive range blocks.

Thus, in order to provide knowledge to make our own decision (for Usopedia) on this matter, I'd like to request for check user on these accounts. Thanks.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 09:30, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

P. S. Please do not lock them, even if you agree with the result that they are identical. For now, this is an internal affair of Usopedia, and it is our community that should decide what to do on them (including the decision to request for locking).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 09:30, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

  Declined under User accounts policy. I see no evidence of abuse and the request “not to lock” implies there isn’t any abuse either. John (talk) 10:12, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Having multiple accounts itself can be an abuse in our local community. I asked not to lock (for now) because it's a single wiki issue (and not a global issue), and the community should have a chance to understand the user's intention.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 10:29, 24 November 2018 (UTC)modded.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 10:31, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Link to the policy? Also the use of CheckUser is really for abuse, not for the potentialness of abuse. As a global community, multiple accounts are fine therefore a lock won’t realistically happen unless it turns into clear abuse and the sane standard would apply to a CheckUser for me. Unless a clear link and reasons for linking the two accounts exists. Currently while the first is potentially met, the second is definitely not. John (talk) 10:40, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
This is our blocking policy. SInce it is written in Japanese, I'd like to translate the necessary articles of our policy.
  • 18 - Sockpuppets - Indefinite block
  • 37 - Creating multiple accounts without legitimate reasons - Indefinite block on subaccounts and a warning on the main account (if this is the first time of abuse) -> indefinite block on all accounts (if this is the second time)
The CU result provided by Japanese Uncyclopedia (link provided on my first post) not only indicates that these two accounts are identical, but also the user is deceiving the community by claiming that these two accounts are those of friends (and not those of an identical person). If the report on Uncyclopedia is true, we have to deal with them per these two articles, but we need a clear double check of our own to make a judgement (deception to our community is a clear abuse, but as I repeat, we don't trust the judgement of Uncyclopedia).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 11:03, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
Okay. I'm reviewing the evidence and I am going to lock. The accounts link back to an LTA which I can confirm beyond reasonable doubt as being the same. Please review my locks and bring up any issues in an email to stewards miraheze.org or john miraheze.org. John (talk) 21:11, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
All accounts locked. Made a local block as the global account does not exist. User seems to have administrator flag on wiki. John (talk) 21:25, 24 November 2018 (UTC)
@John: Thanks for your confirmation, but you have blocked the abuse filter (利用者:不正利用フィルター means User:Abuse FIlter in Japanese) on Usopedia. SInce it's our key defence system against LTAs, I'll turn it back on, unless you can provide a legitimate reason for it (as far as I know, the abuse filter is an extension based bot, and can never be an LTA).--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 08:32, 25 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello. I am Bureaucrat on Fujikyu Line wiki.

@プログラマリオ: I think that's a technical issue, and thus should file a request on phabricator.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 09:54, 24 November 2018 (UTC)

Requesting Ownership of a wikiEdit

The wiki cmhoc.miraheze.org's current owner has left the community the wiki is for and deleted her Accounts for the community, making it impossible to change Admins. As the only other Admin, I'm requesting that I be given ownership to allow for management of the wiki as used by the community. Thank You.

Request for checkuser on Warapedia (suspected LTA accounts)Edit

Hi, I'd like to request for checkuser on these two accounts on Warapedia, because we have found some similarities between them.

  • 大沼 - already locked as LTA:KOSHIN by John
  • りゅーよしお - suspected LTA account due to some common traits with 大沼

Thanks as always :)--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 02:13, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Checkuser request on suspected LTA accounts on UsopediaEdit

Hi, I'd like to request for checkuser on suspected LTA accounts on Usopedia. They are:

I suspect that they are both accounts of LTA:FURANO, as they have shown some common traits with this LTA, and they have made similar edits within just a couple of minutes. Thanks as always.--開拓者 (The Pioneer) (talk/contribs) 03:40, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

I locked HOTA-TEWI, ヒラし, 埴科, Cherry rohashi, 金沢のゆうじろう, and 電車区のトトロ兄貴が垢作っててたまげた as all being technically indistinguishable from ぐにます. -- Void Whispers 18:00, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Public Viewing with Private EditingEdit

Hello Steward. I want to move a wiki to miraheze. Its privacy settings should be "anyone can view, but only people of my organization get an account and can make edits". In my current self-hosted Mediawiki, these are the relevant lines of the LocalConfig:

   $wgGroupPermissions['*']['createaccount'] = false;
   $wgGroupPermissions['*']['edit'] = false;

Can you please insert these lines for me, or tell me how I can otherwise achieve the desired result? Thank you for your time! --Constantin (talk) 19:06, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

@Constantin: Hello, and welcome to Miraheze! You can change these settings yourself, in Special:ManageWikiPermissions on your wiki. If you are having trouble using it, I can also doing for you. Also, I see that you mention a custom domain, if you would like, you can also use your wiki with a custom domain at Miraeze (see Custom domains). Reception123 (talk) (C) 19:54, 9 December 2018 (UTC)
Thank you very much :-) --Constantin (talk) 21:03, 10 December 2018 (UTC)

Maia Song Contest MediationEdit

Following a recent report made to staff about the fork of maiasongcontest.miraheze.org to maiasc.miraheze.org, a change was made to the Content Policy essentially disallowing the forking of wikis on Miraheze except in situations where the community has tried, but failed, to mediate the situation on their own. It is my knowledge that no such discussion has taken place, and that a full discussion (involving the entire Maia Song Contest community) has been avoided. As such, this thread has been created to allow for such discussion to take place. Users who are not a part of the Maia Song Contest wiki should refrain from participating in this discussion, but may comment on the policy change in a new section.

This discussion must resolve the following questions:

What alternative could resolve the issue the community has been facing without creating a fork? Should this be enacted?

This discussion is not aimed at resolving whether or not the fork should exist.

As a note, the comments of each participant will be treated with equal weight, and no retaliation should be taken against a user as a result of their proposal or comments. Any rude comments or proposals will be moderated and resolved by a Steward.

Following the creation of this thread, I will notify the bureaucrats of both involved wikis of this discussion. They are expected to make this discussion visible to the entire community. I would be willing to provide a mass notification to all users on both wikis if asked. -- Void Whispers 20:12, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

ClarificationEdit

Please use this section to request any clarification regarding the discussion as a whole and what it seeks to resolve. -- Void Whispers 20:12, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

ProposalsEdit

DiscussionEdit

A full dicussion has been tried but unfortunately failed due to power-grabbing on the behalf of the "maiasc" wiki. It's almost unanimous in the community that the true ownership belongs to the original wiki, and the duplicate should be deleted. -AuroraBorealis (talk) 20:44, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

In addition, the creators of this 'splinter wiki' were removed due to personal attacks on myself and generally harbouring toxicity in the community. Several other members have taken this view and I have invited them to testify this here. -AuroraBorealis (talk) 20:52, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

Duplicate wiki should be deleted as it is not representative of the Maia Song Contest, nor the community it is trying to represent. After rejecting internal issues "maiasc" was established to try and withhold power and to try and divide the community. The community is behind the original wiki, and would like the copied wiki to be deleted as it contains information belonging to and created by the original wiki. -Stekay (talk)

Additionally I privately contacted one of the hosts of the copied (read: stolen) wiki, to get their point of view on the issues. I believe the founder of the wiki made reasonable claims for amendments to the contest, which were failed to be agreed upon by the now "maiasc" wiki hosts. No response was given to my arguments as to why a new wiki needed to be created, when both users failed to inform the community about the issues and instead took control by creating a new wiki, without any context given to members. I tried to mediate by saying both users should be allowed to continue in the contest should they delete the duplicate wiki, but they've failed to do so. There is a severe lack of respect towards the community here by attempting to sever it in two, a community that has existed through many issues for the past 3 years, ultimately returning to peace. This is however, a step too far.Stekay (talk)

Unfortunately, discussions between the two wikis ave been unsuccessful. The cloned wiki has no legitimacy and lacks support amongst the Maia Song Contest community. The Maia Song Contest is a community-orientated wiki: it is morally unnacceptable for a copy of our community to exist like 'maiasc'.-Nori (talk)

Pretty much everything was said by the three people above me: 99% of this community has chosen to back the original wiki instead of the doppelgaenger one, which has been created out of something that was blown out of proportion to begin with by its creators, who tried to seize power and force the wiki's founder out. The creators of maiasc are still trying to instill confusion and the deletion of the doppelgaenger contest would be a good thing for the community's cohesion. -AudiHugo (talk)

The community has backed the original wiki and the deletion of the maiasc wiki is the key to being a good thing in the community. -AshleyInSirens (talk)

I'm in complete support of what everyone else here has said, I feel the cloned wiki should be deleted, it being an exact replica of the original and thus aren't supported by the community of the original wiki. (talk)

It's unfair that the hard work put in by the original Maia Song Contest community has been undermined by a wikipedia page that copies all of their work, some of which without permission. I know that user SteKay has taken one of the pages he has created down from the "maiasc" wiki as it was stolen from the original wiki without his permission, but his changes were reverted and his page remains on the wiki and he no longer has permission to edit or remove the page. Although I have not attempted to remove any pages created by me from the original wiki that has been copied to the "maiasc" wiki, I do not appreciate that all of the pages I have created from the original wiki have been copied, even stolen, and put onto a wikipedia that I and many others do not support. -Quetriste (talk)

I've found some interesting screenshots where it appears that the creators of the duplicate wiki made an implied impersonation as owning the wiki (or being admin of it) when neither are true, and it seems this led to the wiki's creation. An error on Miraheze's part for allowing this in the first place maybe?

These are screen-grabs of the Miraheze IRC chat log;

I think this needs to be urgently investigated because not only did they backstab the community, they've also misled you guys.. -AuroraBorealis (talk) 23:48, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

I agree with everything that has been said here, especially with what the use Quetriste has said. I have put a lot of time into cultivating an original history of a made up country and I believe that this second wiki shouldn’t be allowed to exist. If the users that created the copy of the maia universe wish to create thier own contest then they should create it from scratch. They should not be allowed to use the clout that the Maia Song Contest has created through hard work that the user AuroroaBorealis has created. - support. -AdrianPosteraro (talk)

As a long-time user of the Maia Song Contest wiki and community, including being an administrator for an extended amount of time and being one of the most active users about a year ago, I can confirm that this is nothing but a malicious and petty attempt at stealing an entire wiki and song contest. The maiasc wiki is simply a copy created completely out of spite and vindictiveness. I have seen both sides of the story and I can easily say that the maiasc wiki was made just in order to upset the original creator, AuroraBorealis, because they could not reach common grounds on several issues. They have completely ignored the fact that AuroraBorealis is the original creator and has the final say in any decisions made on the wiki. To quote what user Quetriste previously said, "it is incredibly unfair that the amount of hard work put in by the original Maia Song Contest community has been undermined by a wikipedia page that copies all of their work. "
I agree with everything that has previously been said above. I truly hope you can all see the seriousness in this issue, as it has driven an entire community apart and led everyone into confusion. Stewen (talk) 07:40, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
