Using a bot

Hi, I'm trying to implement a bot on my Bus.miraheze.com wiki, it's based on pywikibot. When saving a page, I keep getting error

   req['captchaid'] = captcha['id']
   KeyError: 'id'

It seems that if my bot is submitting a few words, it is fine, but as long as it's a long string, it will throw this error. I've googled around, but cant find a solution. Can you help me with making sure it is not captcha problem? Thx. Ww9980 (talk) 22:17, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, problem has been solved. Please ignore me. Ww9980 (talk) 22:22, 16 November 2015 (UTC)

Errors found in extension

Hello,

It appears on my encyclopedia that there are some errors within the database. Whenever I attempt to go to my social profile I get the following:

"A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

Function: UserProfile::getProfile Error: 1146 Table 'micropediawiki.user_profile' doesn't exist (185.52.1.77)"

May you possibly fix this for me? Thanks!--Kaiser (talk) 15:07, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Should be fixed now. Southparkfan (talk) 15:40, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Request- Current All The Tropes Dump

A while ago [at Orain] I got a copy of ATT dump file to make a private copy of ATT as an educational project. The dump file currently available at archive.org is dated August 2014. I asked in the ATT forum here about getting a current dump and was told by GethN7 to make that request here. Thanks!

By current, you mean 'just most recent revisions'? — revi 15:50, 10 December 2015 (UTC)

Storage server

I read the discussion on IRC about database storage space and I suggest one of these servers for the databases and images. They have a lot more space then the SSD cloud servers. D4rkst4r (talk) 20:24, 20 November 2015 (UTC)

@D4rkst4r: a RamNode (our current host, so RamNode is actually preferred if possible) 512MB CVZ has 25GB (SSD-cached) space more, 1TB bandwidth more and 1 more CPU, all for the same price. So Vultr is not an option :) Southparkfan (talk) 21:16, 13 December 2015 (UTC)

Visual Editor Error

When pressing "Edit" It does nothing really but reloading the page,

If when pressing "Edit Source" It works perfectly!

I guess its a Visual Editor Error.

The Wiki is: development.miraheze.org

Global Interface editor + Questions

Hi, if it is possible counting 1 January 2016, I would need "Global Interface editor" so I can place notices on wikis. Also, do we still have the inactivity script? And how will I do the closing, will I use LockDB? Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 05:39, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Actual closing will happen by any MediaWiki sysadmin (tutorial will follow shortly). All wiki creators will get a global group I guess. Southparkfan (talk) 11:23, 27 December 2015 (UTC)
Okay, so closing will be done on the DBlist. Then, is there a way to make the DB list accessible by wiki creators? (I don't think there is any way of making a group on command line that limits editing one file). Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 11:56, 27 December 2015 (UTC)

Backup pulled from archive.org (Izanagi.miraheze.org)

Hi @Southparkfan: or anyone else,

Imported backup xml from archive.org. The problem now is that none of the Category pages seem to be listing their respective pages. Could you look into this plz? Also, changes I make to Mediawiki:Common.css won't show up (not immediately anyways despite refreshing cache). Oberyn (talk)

NOTE: About the categories: The pages that were not being displayed in their categories were put there within a condition specified in a template. Normal categories using the [[category command works fine. Oberyn (talk)

Hi @Oberyn:, can you give some examples of this? The MediaWiki:Common.css issue should be fixed now btw. Southparkfan (talk) 15:50, 24 December 2015 (UTC)

@Southparkfan:...The Notorious Ogre Turtle page, as you can see from the list at the bottom of it, is a part of a series of categories: Bestiary, Monsters of Old Wood Forest, BossesField Boss, Animals, and Level 16 to 20 Monsters. However, visiting those category pages will give you the message, "This category currently contains no pages or media." Please note that pages such as Notorious Ogre Turtle were automatically put into their respective categories from a template, Template:Beast, I had included. Whenever someone inserts a Beast template and fills in its values, it will automatically be included into its respective categories (The "if" code was used. Example: {{#if: {{{Location|}}} | [[Category:Monsters of {{{Location}}}]]| }}). Please also note that this issue only persists with "automatic categories"..pages included into categories normally work fine (By normally i mean with the command [[Category:Example]] at the bottom). The "automatic categories" worked fine in our Orain wiki. The current issue is most likely due to something to do with the import process. Anyways..thank you for the help. Looking forward... Oberyn (talk)

Should be fixed now. Please let me know if you need something else. Southparkfan (talk) 16:08, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

@Southparkfan: Hey, I had requested this on the "request features/extensions" but I doubt it would be looked at anymore since it was already marked DONE. Could you remove the MobileFrontend extension from my wiki (Izanagi.miraheze.org)? I've been told it's a global extension? I just don't want my wiki to be viewed in mobile format; it looks weird. Also...i just want to say that we are extremely grateful for the service you all are providing us. My team will be thrilled to hear that the wiki will be back up for editing. For their sake... How can i go about downloading xml-backups of the entire wiki? I'm aware of page-by-page exporting. Thanks Oberyn (talk)

@Oberyn: Hi, I will try to see what I can do about MobileFrontend being disabled on your wiki. As for backups do you want old backups or someone to do backups of today? Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 17:26, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the looking into mobilefrontend. About the backups..don't worry about it: I just wanted to know if the option was available. Will request one when we make enough progress. Thanks for the prompt replies. Oberyn (talk)

Index Wiki (transferred from Administrators' noticeboard)

Can it have a link on the main page or sidebar so new users know they can go to it and create a page about their wiki or find information about existing wikis? D4rkst4r (talk) 22:40, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

I don't understand what you mean. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 03:57, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
The sidemenu Is global, And not only in the index page. As well - Only wiki sysop's can edit the sidemenu, and Even Stewards cannot change it. SleepyMode 11:06, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
@D4rkst4r and SleepyMode:D4rk, do you mean you want Index wiki to be on the sidebar of Meta wiki? Or all wikis? If the wiki grows and looks helpful we might link it here, but probably not globally. Also, SleepyMode, what you said about Stewards not being able to do that is not true, as Stewards have most if not all of the permissions local sysops have, we just don't use them as much on other wikis. Specifically, Stewards do have read, edit, editprotected, and editinterface globally, which are all of the rights required to edit the system interface on any wiki. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 13:02, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

Request for adding testwiki to Dormancy policy exceptions

Extension:MultiUpload disabled globally

I've gone ahead and disabled Extension:MultiUpload on all wikis where it was enabled. This extension is throwing end-user server 500 errors, has been unmaintained, and I haven't personally seen it working since MediaWiki 1.24 (we are currently running 1.41.0 (5498056)). I'd personally recommend Extension:MsUpload if you still need bulk-uploading functionality, but you might want to look at other things that extension does, or find your own alternative. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 13:02, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

I never saw it useful anyway. SleepyMode 13:17, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

ric.miraheze.org

Hello. Last 10th november I got my wiki at mirahaze. ric.miraheze.org

I have a problem, I enter with my user account and it seems I have no administrator and bureaucrat permissions.

Could you make me administrator and bureaucrat?

And also this other users: https://ric.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User:SergiDiaz&action=edit&redlink=1 https://ric.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User:RenéMérou&action=edit&redlink=1 https://ric.miraheze.org/w/index.php?title=User:Pablo2garcia

If you do now want or can add them as admins and bureaucrats I would need to change my password in order to give it to them, since I am not so tech savvy, and let them do the initial setups. And I could not change my password. If you could change it for: "maravilla". But our first option is to make them admins and bureaucrats.

Also we would want to change the settings so users can create pages, and the default user language. What configuration files must we change? Just give us a hint, we will study it.

And is it possible to download back ups of the whole wiki? How?

Thanks a lot for your time and the Miraheze initiative. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miquel Villamon (talkcontribs)

@Miquel Villamon: I'm looking into the user permissions on your wiki now. What do you mean you'd have to change your password to give it to them?
You can't change any of the "configuration files" for your wiki, that is handled by System administrators. Some things can be changed on wiki, but what you're describing does sound like a configuration change. Please make a request at Request features.
You can download backups of the whole wiki. To have a backup created, please ask a sysadmin (most likely @Southparkfan:.
Thanks for your support :) Hopefully we can help you soon. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 15:47, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
@Miquel Villamon: After quickly going back to wiki creation logs for November 10th, I found your wiki and the associated request. I've gone ahead and given your Administrator and Bureaucrat rights on your wiki. You may now log in and assign these rights to any other users. Note that bureaucrats don't really give any administrative positions besides being able to choose more administrators. If you give anyone on your wiki administrator, you will not be able to remove it yourself, you will have to request a Steward to do it for you. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 15:50, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

Problem with a JPG file.

Please change my wiki as private wiki. I mean all the page I've created and will create in future by default as private wiki's.

Bug: 'Bad title' at help page

When a visitor / user click to the help page, it ends with a 'Bad title' page at https://permanentfuturelab.wiki/wiki/Mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:VisualEditor/User_guide . Is this a bug or bad installation/configuration of the extension?

To reproduce: 1. Browse to a wiki page at https://permanentfuturelab.wiki/wiki/Permanent_Future_Lab_Wiki 2. Click one of the edit links 3. Click at the ? icon at the upper right corner 4. Click the link to 'Read the user guide'

Our wiki is giving an error

Hi, I just tried to visit the wiki (Aikatsu! Photo on Stage!!) to add something, and suddenly it's giving me (and all other visitors) an error. It was working about half an hour ago when I was there.

The message it's showing is the following:

Can't access my wiki without resetting password each time

Hi.

I'm new to wiki's and it might be that I'm doing something wrong. Every time I, and my other members, try to access our wiki (https://pifusas.miraheze.org/wiki/Forside) we need to reset our passwords to be able to enter. The system does not accept our newly created passwords as we submit them if we revisit after browser has been closed.

Regards Sindre (talk)

Hi, I am also new at Miraheze and I have a very similar problem. I have been granted a new private wiki (Thank you, Miraheze). I am not able to use the newly created password, even if I just log out and try logging back without closing the window. It accepts the password, but does not login, it just says something like I do not have rights to read. I have checked cookies, they are enabled. I have tried to erase them, no success.

EDIT: Is there any solution please? Thank you Regards Adamk (talk)

@Sindre: @Adamk:: does this still occur? We fixed this problem a few days ago, so hopefully this does not happen anymore. Southparkfan (talk) 14:49, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
@Sindre: @Southparkfan:: True, it's working now! Thanks a lot! Adamk (talk) 16:12, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Mail from Miraheze in Gmail spamfolder

When received mail from the Miraheze server it's delivered in the spam folder at Google Gmail servers. I reported this before at IRC and it was fixed for a while, but goes wrong again.

A copy/paste of the mail header below. When looking to that it looks like SPF is not working optimal since the status is neutral instead of permitted. I also suggest to look at http://mxtoolbox.com/domain/miraheze.org/ as well for advise, which suggest to add dmarc and optimize 3 DNS settings. And take a look at https://toolbox.googleapps.com/apps/checkmx/check?domain=miraheze.org which suggest to add DKIM

I just check it with the e-mail watchlist function. Still goes to spam folder. --Jurjendevries (talk) 22:57, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
Was the SPF still denied by miraheze.org? I do not have this error at all with Outlook. Southparkfan (talk) 17:10, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
The SPF is not authorative. Like an agent, it neither confirms nor denys. John (talk) 15:26, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm going to work on this today and in the future as a continuation project as the mail setup is my area here. I have already added DKIM recently. John (talk) 15:26, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I've done a bit of work on this, the SPF record accepts our emails and the DKIM set up seems valid. There should no longer be any issues with this hopefully. John (talk) 16:56, 29 January 2016 (UTC)
I can confirm that I receive an e-mail today in my Google inbox folder instead of the spam folder. Great job, thanks! --Jurjendevries (talk) 10:18, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Constant error

There seems to be a error when I click on links that is similar to the below:

Babskwal: I hope to fix that login error soon. A workaround is to let your users login on this wiki, Meta. Any wiki with a .miraheze.org subdomain is in our (technical) control, so it's safe to login. Southparkfan (talk) 14:08, 10 February 2016 (UTC)
@Babskwal: Update: we've fixed the login problem on private wikis. Southparkfan (talk) 19:00, 11 February 2016 (UTC)

Hey guys. First I want to thank you for the new wiki, cybercrime.miraheze.org. I have been having an issue:

I have been able to add two people to administer the wiki (I have it protected). There is another user I need to add to it. I type this username verbatim into the search in special:userrights but nothing comes up.

Any suggestions? The user I am trying to add is Njfazz and our wiki is cybercrime.miraheze.com.

He says he has confirmed his email (which is what allowed me to add the other two admins).

Thanks again!

Visual Editor error

Hi. I was able to use the visual editor until recently, when it keeps giving me a 401 parsoid error whenever I try to edit a page on my wikis (hobbies.miraheze.org & biblicalwiki.miraheze.org). I am able to use it at meta.miraheze.org though. Your assistance is much appreciated! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cat (talkcontribs)

A Parsoid server error? Looking after it. SleepyMode 18:13, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
@Cat: It appears both wikis are registered by the parsoid server, also, It seems to work on every other wiki. SleepyMode 18:18, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
I believe the issue is persistent among private wikis and really is a design factor of MediaWiki and VisualEditor unfortunately. I'll take a look at how it interacts with unreadable APIs. John (talk) 18:34, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
@John:@SleepyMode: I was able to use Visual Editor on my private wiki for a few weeks. It started to give me the 401 error recently. Not sure if this helps, but under VisualEditor's troubleshooting section at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:VisualEditor, it states:
parsoidserver-http-bad-status: 401
Caused by read or edit restrictions. If you've set up a private wiki and don't want to use cookie forwarding, you can explicitly remove restrictions for Parsoid by IP address. -- Cat (talk) 21:16, 23 February 2016 (UTC)
@Cat: we were already using that, but because we use external Parsoid servers (and we have IPv6 stuff), we had to add "::ffff:" to our Parsoid IPs. VisualEditor should work now. Southparkfan (talk) 13:01, 26 February 2016 (UTC)
@Southparkfan: Thanks, it's working now :). Is it possible to upgrade to the latest version? Here's the git. Cheers, Cat (talk)

Development wiki Dormancy policy Exception

Hello there, I think you should look at that.

JS error on allthetropeswiki

A few site features are broken in ATTland. I suspect it has something to do with this error occurring before gadget loading:

Error: Unknown dependency: ext.eventLogging

Oh, and this error only seems to happen when logged-in. Any ideas? ~~ Vorticity (talk) 09:30, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

The cause of this bug was the VectorBeta extension. The compact personal toolbar depends on the EventLogging extension (which is not useful to install at Miraheze, because we don't use such logging), and is impossible to disable (this also explains why this only happens when logged-in). An upstream bug report exists, but is not being handled (VectorBeta is an unmaintaned extension). Southparkfan (talk) 13:42, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Impossible to create account

Hello,

I've been trying to create an account for a friend after he was having some problems with the CAPTCHA. However, both of the names seem to be 'already taken', which I find unusual, as while I could understand that a one-letter name might be taken, I cannot understand why this other name would be taken.

Could someone please help me as a result?

Which names did you try to use? SleepyMode (talk) 14:43, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
Would it be possible for an account to be created under that name? AGrayCat (talk) 09:34, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

Cannot create account of friend for private wiki

Hello.

When I try to create an account for a friend in my private wiki (seldir.miraheze.org) it first give me an error saying "Couldn't verify account" then when I try again "User already exists" even though it doesn't appear in the wiki's user list, nor does it appear on meta's user list. It is also supposed to send a mail with a temporary password to my friend, but no email is send.

When trying to create his account himself, my friend have the same problem (even with a different name). The correct name of the account was supposed to be "Majorsimon".

Thanks in advance for your help.

Noudeulle (talk) 14:46, 12 March 2016 (UTC) @Noudeulle: Sorry you are experiencing these issues. We are aware and are trying to fix it, but it seems to be a Mediawiki bug. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 15:17, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

Custom domain captcha

Hello,

There appears to be an error when it comes to editing a custom domain wiki when it requires a captcha, as well as any other features that require a captcha.

Could this be resolved so IP addresses can edit, and when the current account-creation problem is fixed, accounts can be created? Otherwise, for the time being it seems almost impossible to edit the wiki outside of requesting an account to be created on the IRC.

AGrayCat (talk) 18:06, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

(Also, NoTitle seems to not be working?)

(Also, is there an E.T.A on when account creation will be fixed?)

Resetting the password of an account

Hello,

A temporary password was created for the account 'O'. Unfortunately, I have misplaced the password, so would it be possible to send a new password to this accounts email?

AGrayCat (talk) 18:06, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

You can use Special:PasswordReset. John (talk) 20:24, 14 March 2016 (UTC)
Unless hijacking accounts is extremely easy, O does not have an email and therefore cannot be recovered normally. AGrayCat (talk) 09:28, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Doing so is really bad for security reasons so as the account has few meaningful edits on one wiki, I've renamed the account to "O~old" and you can re-create an account at O. With no valid email, manually resetting an accounts password without 100% knowledge the requester is the account owner is really bad security practise and since there is no way to know here, moving the account off the usermame is best. John (talk) 15:33, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
As I have mentioned previously, and as I have brought to light to SleepyMode, it is currently impossible to create accounts. I'm on the IRC right now, would it be possible to create a new O account, as it is currently impossible for one to create an account through the 'normal' process. Also, is there any specific person I should contact about the problems I listed in my question lodged above? AGrayCat (talk) 18:12, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
I'm unsure of the issue you're experiencing at the moment. I was aware of Captcha issues in the past but the captcha seems to be working fine on the wiki. John (talk) 18:37, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Possible ETA on the account creation being fixed? NoTitle still isn't working. Did you disable the captcha on the universebuild.com wiki by any chance in order to fix it? If not, would it be possible to disable it? AGrayCat (talk) 20:28, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
The account creation issue should be fixed in theory. I'm unsure about NoTitle, to my knowledge it is an un maintained extension and so it's not really expected to fully work with MediaWiki. Captcha is not disabled and will not be disabled, it's working fine on the wiki. John (talk) 20:42, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
Are there any replacements for NoTitle at the moment? EDIT: O seems to have been taken? The bug seems to be active here, should I talk to SPF on the IRC? AGrayCat (talk) 10:16, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
I don't believe so besides using CSS. And with the account, I've told SPF about this specific case. John (talk) 19:37, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
Is there someone to contact for help with that CSS feature? Thank you for the help. AGrayCat (talk) 20:42, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Private Wiki?

I'm not certain if this is the correct place to ask this, or if it should be in the Administrators' board, or maybe in feature requests... I apologize in advance if this should be elsewhere. That being said:

I recently had a wiki created (GeoData) and the initial request was for a private wiki. But I am able to access it (and also edit any page I haven't specifically protected) even when not logged in.

Did something not get set up correctly, or am I misunderstanding the term "private wiki" as used here on Miraheze? If the former, could I please get that fixed? Thanks! Millernt83 (talk) 18:38, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi, the wiki is private already. Only logged in users with the group right read (members and above) are able to read the wiki and anyone with read can edit it. John (talk) 20:01, 16 March 2016 (UTC)
Ahh, I get it. It's private except for the main page. I simply hadn't gotten around to creating any other pages yet and was only testing with the one. My bad. Thanks!! Millernt83 (talk) 03:56, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Keep my rights please

I'm in need to leave for a while, and I would be glad if you keep my rights, I'm really busy. SleepyMode (talk) 15:35, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

The best thing is to self-hand them in while you're away as it allows better judgement of who is actually around and allows judgement of workload better. Plus there's s history of a fair amount of wiki requests going unhandled so I'm looking at changes in that respect internally. John (talk) 15:47, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
@John: I'm back here.

Help starting

Dear administrators! First of all, thank you for creating this lovely community-based wiki!

We are very new in using this tool: On February 12th, I requested the wiki domain integrationmnw.miraheze.org

It was kindly approved to me by Southparkfan

Now, when I go to my domain, it tells me the wiki does not exist. What am I doing wrong?

Here are the details:

Host: integrationmnw.miraheze.org Visitor IP: ::ffff:94.134.213.61 Request URL: /wiki/ Timestamp: 2016-03-17 15:49:23

Thank you very much for your help, a quick reply would be so much appreciated ...

Kindest regards, Victoria ~~~~Vloprieno

Hi, I've just looked and while the request was marked as approved, I don't see any evidence the wiki was created. I've just gone a head and made the wiki at the url you stated and it works now. Apologies for this, John (talk) 16:12, 17 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks John, for your quick help! You saved my life -- my boss will be happy with me tomorrow. :) Great people here at Miraheze.

NoTitle is Flakey?

I had NoTitle enabled on carvingwiki yesterday, but the behavior is weird. 99% of the time the __NOTITLE__ does nothing and the title still appears. On some very few, seemingly rare page refreshes the title will not be shown. But then if I do a refresh it comes back again. Any advice? Thank you. It's already known, but I never actually checked it out. I'm going to look at the extension :). SleepyMode (talk) 14:01, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
You can try making a template (which would be Template:Hidden title, as on Wikipedia) with the code {{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="color:white;width:0;font-size:0;" class="hidden_title">{{FULLPAGENAME}}</span>}}. Then you can use it on pages to made the title go away! (If you want to, you can add the CSS .hidden_title { display: none; } to MediaWiki:Common.css to make the template make the title of the pages it is used on truly invisible.) (Must I say, I'm not a steward, but I still know stuff, trust me!) Lemondoge T C GC 13:53, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, AGreyCat also gave me hints and I was successful with the css technique. Fixing NoTitle is a low priority with these workarounds but if it doesn't function it might be better to pull the extension for the whole system and just call it unsupported? ETF.
Your welcome. Lemondoge T C GC 00:50, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Expression error of math formulas.

When I try to write a math formula using <math> tag, an error message appears when the math formula settings are expressed as PNG file.

Surprisingly, is expressed properly on Miraheze, but when I change even a single letter x to k, <math>f(k)</math>, this causes an error, displaying "Failed to parse". So I have a serious trouble using math formula when I write wiki articles. I found a JS code to transplant Mathjax codes in wiki, pasted sources on my own Javascript articles and changed my own settings to express math formulas as using TeX instead of PNG files. However, this takes too much time to render formulas and there are still some notations not working properly.

Anyway, do you know what is the best solution to express math formulas properly? --Utolee90 (talk) 22:52, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

I see what the error is; the error is this: Failed to parse (PNG conversion failed; check for correct installation of latex and dvipng (or dvips + gs + convert)): f(k). Additionally, the same error (but showing "k" instead of "f(k)") shows when doing <math>k</math>. Maybe the letter "k" can't be rendered inside of the PNG image inside of the <math> tag. (I am not a steward, but this seems to be the problem.) Lemondoge T C GC 00:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
Ahumm I will redirect a system administrator, Hold on. SleepyMode (talk) 14:44, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
Hm. I'm not what has changed by the rendering of <math>f(k)</math> works for me now. ex. . Nothing in the logs beside the error stated above which seems irregular. John (talk) 16:05, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Scratch the above. After scouring logs via grep, I have discovered all successful renders of f(k) occurred on mw1. All failed renders occurred on mw2. The difference is a missing package between them. This has now been fixed (for real this time). John (talk) 16:09, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your help. Now it works well. --Utolee90 (talk) 12:48, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thanks for setting up my new wiki. However, I still have some problems. First, I cannot change the wiki name where you wrote it incorrectly. Moreover, I would like to change the edit language from Arabic to English, but this is not possible.

Hi, you do have administrator and bureaucrat rights, but these do not permit you to be able to change the name and the language, to prevent abuse. Please tell us what the new name is, so that a sysadmin can change it. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 02:19, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Global Lock/Rename

Hello, I would like to talk about Fuckboi8000(More information on Special:CentralAuth) and his Abusive username.
He also made a distruptive edit to the cssandjsscholboardwiki, I think he should get Locked due to his abuse-vandalism only purposes.

Sincerely,
SleepyMode (talk) 14:27, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

I've locked the account purely because it was brought to attention. No fair ground for a check user so not done on that ground. John (talk) 16:52, 3 April 2016 (UTC)
@John: Should User:Fart city usa also be locked on the same grounds? Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 04:53, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Nope, that account has no edits therefore can't be locked as a vandalism-only account. More so there's less evidence between the two accounts as there's no behavioural evidence or infact accounts existing om the same functional wikis. John (talk) 07:57, 4 April 2016 (UTC)
Could you please unlock User:Fuckboi8000? When he made an unconstructive edit, he was just testing and playing around. And, it was only 1 edit, and here is a quote that I made up: "Doing a bad thing only once is nowhere near too much. Doing a bad thing enough times to cause massive damage is too much". It is anyways most likely true that the user Fuckboi8000 was not made only for vandalism. More, I know he has an inappropriate username, but he (probably) didn't know that inappropriate usernames aren't allowed (this comes for another quote: "There is no reason at all to hurt someone for doing something wrong if they don't know it is wrong; if they don't know it is wrong, they may do it by mistake without knowing it is wrong."). One last thing: There is one more reason I want him to be unlocked, but I can't tell you it because it is personal information. Lemondoge T C GC 22:09, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
At the moment I see no use in unlocking (mostly because it seems fairly vandalism based, some may feel 'offended' (not the reason it was locked at all) but also that a new account perhaps isn't so hard to make with no reservation) so I'm not going to. With the final reason, it may be one that changes my mind and if you want the account unlocked badly, john@miraheze.org exists for you to contact me privately/confidentially by. John (talk) 22:19, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
At least, is there any way to locally unblock him (but not actually unlock him)? Lemondoge T C GC 01:02, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
As John stated above, please use john@miraheze.org for talking to him privately. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 04:00, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
No, a lock prevents logging into the global account at all. John (talk) 11:09, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
Actually, it seems like it is possible to locally unblock globally locked users, due to this right assigned to administrators:
Disable global blocks locally (globalblock-whitelist)
My only question for this right is: how? Lemondoge T C GC 13:35, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

(reset indent) @Lemondoge: that is for global BLOCKS not global LOCKS. Locks prevent signing into an account and there is no way to bypass it globally or locally without unlockign the account. Global blocks are placed against IP addresses under similar conditions for global locks. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 17:26, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

Getting permission error

Hello! I requested and was given a wiki last week (thanks!), but I cant seem to be able to do anything. Every time I try and upload an image, edit my user preferences, or click any links on the main page, I get a permissions error that says:

Permission error You do not have permission to read this page, for the following reason: The action you have requested is limited to users in one of the groups: Administrators, member.

Further, I see that I have a notification alert. When I click the icon, it says "Could not retrieve notifications. Please try again. (Error readapidenied)" — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jking (talkcontribs)

Does the size limit of importing XML file exist?

I tried to import XML file on a wiki using the tool special:import. However, the file size(of course XML file) was about 10MB and importing data failed. I wonder what the limit size of file for uploading XML file using "special:import" is. 10MB is too big to upload by using the "import" tool. --Utolee90 (talk) 14:02, 18 April 2016 (UTC)

@Utolee90: There is a limit but IIRC 10 MB should not be an issue. Can you provide any information about the import? Specifically important might be where the xml file came from (wiki it was exported from), the date and time it failed, and any errors that may have been displayed to you, or what made you think it failed. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 16:21, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
@NDKilla: Thank you for your answer. When I checked again, it uploaded sucessfully. However, I should try to import three times to upload fully because the importing consumed a lot of time and even halted with "504 timeout error message". Actually I tried to import an XML file with size about 100MB containing datas of dozens of articles a month ago, but the importing failed at all, even uploading a SINGLE edition.
I forgot to log in. This is me, utolee90. --Utolee90 (talk) 00:11, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
@Utolee90: The 504 errors are probably mostly unrelated (cause wise), but would definitely cause it to fail. Unfortunately it's known that it was happening a lot. Glad you got it working though. Any time you see one of those errors, just try it again. If you keep getting the error very frequently, leave us another note here with detailed information. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 03:44, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Message from RDsupport

Hi,

I requested a wiki yesterday for our organization and am not sure the request went through. I also was just joining Miraheze and thought maybe I had to have membership status to start a wiki. Please let me know if the wiki is in process or not.

Thanks!

Kind Regards,

Mark

wiki request #826

hi, i did the wiki-request #826 (and accidentially as well #830, since i wasnt sure wether i really pressed the "request" button or not). i see that meanwhile many other wikis are approved, while my request (and some others) keep being in review. my question is if i can anyhow speed up the process by answering questions you may have, or what are your regulations for granting/denying wikis? not that im overly urgent, but i did check for other hosts meanwhile, appearantly miraheze is the only one allowing users full control, and installing MW somewhere on a webserver isnt something i seem to be capable of for im no coding expert, so appearantly miraheze is the thing im waiting for. is there anything i can do to help you in your decisionmaking? those "bookauthors" are hp. blavatski, a. besant and cw. leadbeater, they are meanwhile all public domain. the "philosophical line" is called theosophy, but we are rather into a kind of derivate of that original line. if that helps... thanks in advance!

Hi, I have created the wiki at the URL you requested. Sorry for the delay. John (talk) 17:29, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

== another message from User:RDsupport Hi,

Thanks so much for setting up our wiki. We're excited to get started with it. I'd like to invite people to the wiki but don't see any info on users or invitations, etc. Can you help with that?

Thanks,

Mark RDsupport (talk) 19:47, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

@RDsupport: just link users to your wiki. If it is a public wiki, anyone may view the link and register for an account ("create account" in the top right corner). If the wiki is private they can still create an account but can only read the main page. After they register for an account you would have to edit their user rights to make them members. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 21:09, 20 April 2016 (UTC)
@RDsupport: Please either edit your existing sections, or use 'add topic' in the top-right corner. I didn't even realize that your message wasn't related to the section it was in at first. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 15:00, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Comments from Members

I edited my main page and added a page under Discussion: https://cec.miraheze.org/wiki/Talk:Main_Page

However, I don't see any links that members would follow to comment on this page or section. Is that something that you guys have to add manually? If so, can you add that please? I appreciate your help!

RDsupport (talk) 16:02, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

There is an "Add Section" button, which let's them comment. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 16:26, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
@RDsupport: most discussions (such as this current one) are just wikitext. The users would have to just type on that page like this, and preferably use indentation and signatures. For the ways of discussion-board type conversations, there's not really much, but Flow is an option that can be enabled, and could convert all talk pages into flow boards such as this one. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 16:36, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
This page might help you. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 16:39, 21 April 2016 (UTC)
Yes, I like the way the flow boards look! Can you please enable that? Also I'm trying to add a user Apuzzio as an admin for this wiki. I did a search and couldn't find her. How do I add her? Sorry for all the questions. I haven't used a wiki like this before. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RDsupport (talkcontribs)

(reset indent) @RDsupport: I'll enable flow on your wiki in the near future, but could you please request it here? If I enable it, it may be impossible to go back to wiki-markup style talk pages in the future. Also, to add that users as administrators in the future, follow these instructions:

  • Step 1: Navigate to their userpage
  • Step 2: Click "user rights management" in the side bar on the left while on their userpage
  • Step 3: Check the box next to 'Administrator' on the rights management page, type a reason, and submit changes

Database errors on poserdazfreebies (handled)

There's a database error on poserdazfreebies that is causing page-loading problems. Instead of page content, I'm seeing:

A database query error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software.

* Function: DatabaseBase::selectRow
* Error: 1146 Table 'poserdazfreebieswiki.pagetriage_page' doesn't exist (185.52.1.77)

I do see the categories that the pages have.

This is happening on all pages in the Main namespace that I've tried loading in the last few minutes. Talk and Category pages load correctly.

@Robkelk: I'm sorry, this was most likely a side-effect of me enabling Extension:PageTriage on your wiki. This should be fixed, and the extension should now work. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 00:21, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

About reassigning user rights on certain usergroups

Actually I don't request reassigning user rights of certain usergroups now but I want to ask whether I can request changing userrights of certain groups from default settings or making new types of usergroups authorized by bureaucrats. (like making new usergroups such as Transwiki importers or adding the rights of deleting pages to Autopatrolled users, etc, NOT giving someone rights of admins). --Utolee90 (talk) 09:06, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Also, I have one more question: are there any options to change the authority of reading some pages for only autoconfirmed users or sysops? I found there is no option on "protecting pages" to limit the authority of reading certain pages. It is not directly related to "protecting" pages from abusing, but it might be useful to limit spreading secret informations for administrating wikis. --Utolee90 (talk) 09:23, 26 April 2016 (UTC)
@Utolee90: You can request new user-groups at Request features. See List of permissions for a list of permissions, most of which we can add to custom groups. As for protecting pages, I'd be happy to add a custom 'read protect' over at test wiki and see if it works at all, but mw:MediaWiki is not really meant to be a CMS. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 14:02, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Unblock request for development.mh.o

Could you please unblock me on development.miraheze.org, and oversight the edit summary SleepyMode used to block me?

Also, if you can, please globally lock SleepyMode himself, as the edit summary he used would actually, possibly make the block illegal due to the summary itself (if you can't, at least please block him on development.miraheze.org; the block was nowhere near necessary, and was more like a block done to attack me than a block done for a good reason).

Lemondoge T C GC 21:53, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

@Lemondoge: He will most likely not be globally locked, nor will he be blocked from his own wiki (he could just unblock himself). I'm investigating your contributions there, and the behavior of you both. I may take actions against either of you, both of you, or neither of you, in my role as a Development Wiki Supervisor, or in my role as a Miraheze Steward. Any actions I take will clearly acknowledge what role the action is taken in, so that counter-actions and discussion may be done accordingly. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 22:26, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
@Lemondoge and SleepyMode: I've unblocked Lemondoge on the wiki as a result of this request but under the authority of my local powers, not in my role as a Steward. Also, the block reason will not be suppressed, but I will publicly state that I think all of the block reasons were blatant lies. Additionally, this should now be discussed on that wiki, not here. Thanks, -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 22:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
PS, pls discuss here. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 22:46, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Right, so I wasn't attacking you but watching your inter-wiki actions, and as you did it yourself, you should know It is allowed to block users when feels necessary. SleepyMode (talk) 07:06, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
@SleepyMode: Re: above, Please discuss it on your wiki as this wasn't really a matter for Stewards. Also, it's still my personal belief they did nothing on any wiki that could have warranted any block described as being caused for 'interwiki behavior' -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 14:13, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Some image files are broken when they displayed as thumbnails

I uploaded some files on wiki Libre Wiki using special:upload. However, the wiki fails to render some files on thumbnails, and I found a file File:리브레 위키 100일 축전1.png broken on even its file page. I confirmed that it has uploaded sucessfully like this, so broken thumbnails are clearly displaying errors. I want to solve these problems when uploading. Should I inform these errors on Github issue tracker? Were these errors informed already? --Utolee90 (talk) 16:02, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

I missed some infos... I should not inform on Github, but might inform on Phabricator... More explicitly, the message "Unable to open image" error code 1 appears. Permanent Future Lab Flow

Since December 2015 (mediawiki update) the flow extension (user friendly discussion board) is not working anymore at https://permanentfuturelab.wiki/wiki/ . Southparkfan looked into that by https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T122329 , but it looks like it took a long time to fix or it is not able to fix. I like to ask of we can start flow from scratch, because also since december it was not possible anymore to add topics to flow. When a user submit a topic, it is not saved.--Jurjendevries

Hey there, you can collect a group of people and re-create flow, I'm unsure of the situation but I will do my best and try to remake it myself. SleepyMode (talk) 07:17, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
Okay this sounds stupid now. I may be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure they mean just re-enabling flow and losing old flow boards because flow is currently not working on this wiki due to corruption. Flow already works in other places. -- Cheers, NDKilla ( TalkContribs ) 14:12, 28 April 2016 (UTC) Yes, as NDKilla wrote. I remove everything about flow now, install it as a clean one again. Math formula fails to render again.

I edited help pages about using LaTex, but I found that the <math> tag cannot convert math formula codes into PNG file when I select the math formula appearance option as "PNG file" on my Preference settings. I reported this problem last month and once fixed, but this converting error often occurs when I write new math formulas using <math> tag. I checked that math formulas once converted into PNG images successfully, do NOT cause rendering error again no matter how they are complicated. Probably only new math formula scripts cause errors. And here is an example of math formulas failed to convert PNG files. It's very serious... Almost all math formula scrips do not work well... --Utolee90 (talk) 10:50, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Revibot archiving open feature requests?

I've reverted some of Revibot's changes, because I noticed some of those feature requests were not tagged as "Status: Done". Ideally Revibot should only archive those requests if they have this status. @Reception123:, @NDKilla: and others: please look which of those still need to be done. From what I know, Revibot has been set to archive threads that have not been "edited" for 14 days, which we thought at first, was a reasonable time. I'm not sure it can be set to archive a thread based on a status. Reception123 (talk)(contribs) 04:37, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I've looked into this and the issue is definitely not on our side. Looking at the mail log, the mail bounces on our side as the domain your email belongs to, firstly doesn't resolve any addresses at all but assuming it could be a networking issue, found out the domain address is not even registered. Former staff member hacking into other users

On the wiki where I am an administrator, collabvm.miraheze.org, the former staff member Matty45 has been trying to vandalize wiki pages after the other staff members deleted an article on author request. We have been having trouble stopping him, because he has been hacking admin accounts and still has his Bureaucrat permissions that we cannot remove because nobody on the wiki is steward. On behalf of the staff of the wiki, I am asking for someone to remove Matthew's permissions so that he cannot vandalize the wiki. Technoturnovers (talk) 02:56, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

Strong allegation of 'hacking' but I am definitely seeing some irregularities between one of two users. I'll take a look at this as I feel there is just cause to investigate. John (talk) 06:51, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
Afer looking, there is nothing to suggest any account was compromised and misused by Matty45 (or any other user on the wiki). After looking at the wiki specifically, I have removed the user as a bureaucrat as it seems the wiki has a sufficient community base where people can decide for themselves the direction of the wiki (plus the sheer quantity of bureaucrats as well that exist). John (talk) 07:01, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
I can confirm that the accounts CHOCOLATEMAN69 and Chinigan were hacked due to them using weak passwords. Once they're online, I'm going to have them post in this thread and confirm it. Technoturnovers (talk) 10:19, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
I saw Matty45 hack the accounts, also CHOCOLATEMAN69 told me on CollabVM that he didn't unban Matty45. FluffyVulpix (talk) 13:10, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
Chinigan here, i can say that i was "hacked" becuase my old password was "mycaruba". You can't guess something like that. My password has been changed and is now much longer. Chinigan (talk) 10:49, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
